About this artwork

Paul Signac painted Beach at Saint-Briac in 1890, working in oil on canvas. The title points to a seaside view, a coastal setting of the kind that drew many painters of his circle. Signac was a French painter who, together with Georges Seurat, helped develop Pointillism, and he is counted among the Neo-Impressionists. The painting is held today at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.

On your wall: A beach scene like this suits living rooms, hallways and reading corners, and sits well in calm, light-filled spaces where a coastal view is welcome.

About Paul Signac

Paul Signac was a French painter associated with Neo-Impressionism. Working alongside Georges Seurat, he helped develop Pointillism, a technique in which a picture is built from small, separate touches of colour. His name is closely linked with that approach, and it remains the reason his work is so often discussed today.
