About this artwork

Signac's 1896 painting shows flowering trees in pink and white, set beside blue water in a garden. A small yellow hut and a fence sit among the branches. The surface is built from mosaic-like dabs of colour, a hallmark of the Neo-Impressionist approach he followed. Painted in oil on canvas, the work belongs to the Collection Bemberg. The soft blossom against the cooler water gives the scene a bright, spring-like feel.

On your wall: The pink, white and blue tones suit bedrooms, sitting rooms and hallways, especially where you want a light, spring-like note.

About Paul Signac

Paul Signac was a French painter associated with Neo-Impressionism. Working alongside Georges Seurat, he helped develop Pointillism, a technique in which a picture is built from small, separate touches of colour. His name is closely linked with that approach, and it remains the reason his work is so often discussed today.
