Les Plongeurs is a gouache by Fernand Léger, made around 1942. Divers appear as tangled, interlocking figures in red, green, blue and yellow, each drawn with firm black outlines. Around them float loose patches of colour, set against a warm beige ground. The image is square in format, roughly 38 by 38 cm, on a larger sheet of paper, and Léger signed it 'F Léger' in the lower right corner. The flat, saturated colour and bold simplification of form are typical of his approach to figures.
On your wall: Its lively primary colours and warm beige ground suit living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a modern interior needs one bold, playful accent.

Fernand Léger was a French painter, sculptor and filmmaker. He began by developing a personal form of cubism, then gradually moved towards a more figurative, populist style. His boldly simplified treatment of modern subjects has led many to see him as a forerunner of pop art.
