Augusto Giacometti painted Chromatische Fantasie in 1914, using oil paint on canvas. The title points to colour as the real subject: a free play of hues rather than a scene to be recognised. Giacometti, born in Stampa in Grisons, is known as one of the first abstract painters, and he also worked in stained glass, murals and poster design. This painting belongs to the collection of the Kunsthaus Zürich, where it can be seen.
On your wall: Its focus on colour and abstract form suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and hallways, where it can serve as a lively centrepiece.
