Louis Rhead made this lithographic poster in 1897 for the Salon des Cent, a Paris venture linked with posters. The title announces a special exhibition of sixty new, previously unseen posters, so the sheet works as an advertisement for a show of poster art. Rhead was born in Staffordshire, England, and later became an American artist, illustrator and author. Today a impression of this work is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It suits anyone who enjoys the look of late nineteenth-century Parisian poster design.
On your wall: It suits a study, hallway, studio or café-style kitchen, where a vintage poster with period lettering can add character to the room.
