Louis Rhead made this poster in 1895 for The Sun, a New York City newspaper. It belongs to the American poster tradition of the 1890s, when printed posters were a popular way to advertise. Rhead was born in Staffordshire, England, and moved to the United States at twenty-four, working as an artist, illustrator and author. This sheet is now part of the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is listed among his posters and among the posters made for The Sun.
On your wall: It suits a study, hallway or office, and sits well in spaces that favour vintage graphic design or a nod to newspaper history.
