This is a poster by Louis Rhead for the December issue of Cassell's Magazine, dated 1896. It belongs to a group of British posters made for the magazine that year, and it shows a woman in green clothing, drawn in the flowing Art Nouveau manner of the period. Rhead was born in Staffordshire and later made his career in the United States as an artist, illustrator and author. A print of this poster is held in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
On your wall: Its period character and green tones suit a study, reading corner, hallway or sitting room, especially where vintage posters and warm wood or books are already part of the scene.
