Emil Cardinaux, 1913
A 1913 railway poster by Emil Cardinaux, inviting travellers to Graubünden and the castle of Tarasp in the Lower Engadine.
No VAT charged. Free delivery in Switzerland from CHF 99. Delivery details
Emil Cardinaux made this poster in 1913 for the Rhätische Bahn, the railway serving Graubünden in Switzerland. It shows Schloss Tarasp in the Lower Engadine, the castle giving the work its focus and its sense of place. It is a colour lithograph, printed in Zurich by the Graphische Anstalt J.E. Wolfensberger, and the tall format measures roughly 104 by 73 centimetres. As a tourism advertisement, it belongs to the early days of Swiss railway posters, when travel to the mountains was being promoted through bold, memorable imagery.
On your wall: Its railway-poster character and Alpine castle subject suit a hallway, study or living room, especially where travel, Swiss landscapes or vintage graphics are already part of the scheme.
