Emil Cardinaux designed this poster in 1920 to advertise the Palace Hotel in St Moritz. It is a colour lithograph, a technique well suited to the flat, bold areas of colour that poster work calls for. The lettering at the top and bottom names the hotel and places it in Switzerland. The scene brings together snow and ice skaters, so it speaks of winter holidays in the mountains. The original is a large sheet, measuring 127 by 90 centimetres. It belongs to the tradition of Swiss tourism posters, in which hotels and resorts were presented to travellers through striking images.
On your wall: It suits a hallway, living room or study where a touch of Alpine winter and vintage travel style is welcome.
