This is a travel poster from 1916 by Emil Cardinaux, made for the Rhätische Bahn, the railway serving Graubünden. Its subject is Lake Sils, the Silsersee, in the Upper Engadine, an Alpine landscape that the poster presents to would-be visitors. It belongs to the tradition of Swiss rail and tourism posters, where mountain scenery was used to invite people to travel. The poster was printed by Wolfensberger, and it is now part of the SBB Historic poster collection. Today it offers a glimpse of how the Alps were advertised in the early twentieth century.
On your wall: Well suited to a hallway, study or living room where a retro travel poster and an Alpine lake view would add character, particularly in homes that like vintage or mountain themes.
