This painting shows Alyogyne hakeifolia, a flowering plant, and it is the work of Ferdinand Bauer. He based it on a drawing of his own, made from plant material gathered in 1802 on Middle Island, on Goose Island, or in a bay near Cape Aris, in what is now South Australia. Bauer was an Austrian botanical illustrator who travelled to Australia on Matthew Flinders' expedition. This version is a colorized one, and the work belongs to the series known as Illustrationes Florae Novae Hollandiae.
On your wall: Its botanical subject suits a study, hallway, kitchen or bedroom, especially where natural light and a calm, plant-inspired mood are wanted.
