Rosa gallica pontiana is a painted engraving of a rose by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, dated 1824. It belongs to his Les Roses series and falls among the botanical illustrations of Rosa gallica. Redouté was a painter and botanist from the Austrian Netherlands, best known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers. Many of his works were published as large coloured stipple engravings. Here the rose is the sole subject, shown as a botanical study that rewards a slow look.
On your wall: Well suited to a hallway, study, bedroom or dining room, where a botanical rose brings a calm, classic note to traditional and modern interiors alike.
