This is the cover of the first issue of the magazine Zhurnalist, designed by El Lissitzky in 1929. The title is set vertically in dark blue, stacked down the page, and crossed by horizontal bars. The year 1929 appears on the cover, along with Lissitzky's 'El' monogram. It is a printed piece, built from type and simple geometric structure rather than pictures. Lissitzky was an artist and designer of the avant-garde, and this cover shows his work with lettering and layout.
On your wall: Its restrained dark blue and clean lines suit studies, home offices, hallways and modern living spaces where a graphic, uncluttered piece fits well.
