This is El Lissitzky's design for the Old man, a character in the opera Victory over the Sun, dated 1923. It is a costume design, a drawing made to imagine how a figure might look on stage. Lissitzky was a painter, designer, printmaker, photographer and architect, and an important figure of the avant-garde. He helped develop suprematism alongside his mentor, Kazimir Malevich. Seen with that background in mind, the work is a good example of how his practice reached into theatre and design as well as painting.
On your wall: It suits studies, studios, hallways and living spaces where a considered, design-minded piece fits, particularly in modern or minimalist interiors.
