About this artwork

Franz Marc painted Tiger in 1912, working in oil on canvas. It belongs to his animal art, a genre he returned to often, and it sits within Expressionism, the movement he helped shape in Germany. Marc was a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter, the circle of artists whose name became linked with the journal they produced. The painting is held today at the Lenbachhaus. The subject is clear from the title: a tiger, treated in the bold, expressive manner of its period rather than as a literal portrait.

On your wall: A tiger rendered in an expressive, modern style suits living rooms, studies and hallways where you want a confident focal point with a touch of movement.
