About this artwork

This lithographic poster from 1893 shows Aristide Bruant from behind, dressed in a black hat, coat and boots. Lettering announces 'Le Deuxième Volume de Bruant', which is on sale at the Mirliton. Toulouse-Lautrec, who was at home in the colourful, theatrical life of Belle Époque Paris, turns the announcement into a striking figure study, with the dark silhouette of the singer carrying the whole composition.

On your wall: Its strong dark figure and lettering suit a study, hallway, living room or any space where a retro poster can anchor the wall.

About Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist and illustrator. He worked in Paris during the Belle Époque, the late nineteenth century, and threw himself into the city's colourful, theatrical life. That immersion shaped his popular artworks, which drew their subjects from the lively and often decadent world around him.
