This is Alphonse Mucha's Monaco Monte Carlo, dated 1897. Mucha was a Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist who lived in Paris during the Art Nouveau period. He became widely known for stylised, decorative posters, and his theatrical work for Sarah Bernhardt in particular. He also made advertisements, decorative panels and designs, some of the best-known images of his time. The title points to the Mediterranean destination of Monaco and Monte Carlo, and the work sits comfortably within the poster tradition that made his name.
On your wall: It suits a hallway, study or living room where a vintage travel-poster look and a touch of decorative Art Nouveau style would be welcome.
