About this artwork

Burkhard Mangold made this lithographic poster in 1913. It shows a crowd looking on as a procession of women carrying parcels moves towards a large building, the Peterhof, which flies a blue and white flag. Striped wagons accompany the women, and they are marked 'Seidengrieder Zürich'. The title, in German, asks what the people are running to the Paradeplatz for. It is an advertising poster for Switzerland, and the busy gathering of onlookers gives it a sense of occasion.

On your wall: Its lively street scene and bold poster style suit a hallway, study, kitchen or café-style corner, especially in rooms that favour a retro or vintage look.
