About this artwork

Painted in 1889, this oil on canvas shows a Brittany landscape of green fields and rolling hills running towards the sea. Wind-bent trees shape the scene, and peasant women and a cow share the pasture. Gauguin signed it 'P Gauguin 89'. The work is also known as Fields by the Sea, and it is now in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. It is a quiet rural view, where the land and the coast are given as much attention as the figures within it.

On your wall: Its fresh greens and open coastal view suit living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a calm, natural scene would soften the space.
