About this artwork

This is plate 85 from Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur, devoted to the Ascidiae, or sea squirts. The page presents several numbered colonies in soft, faded pink and grey-blue tones. The paper margins and printed headings remain visible, so it reads as a page from a book of natural history illustrations. The arrangement invites you to look closely at each form in turn, and to enjoy the delicate, muted palette.

On your wall: Its soft pinks and grey-blues suit calm spaces such as a study, bedroom or hallway, especially where a quiet botanical or natural history look is wanted.
