Kandinsky made Kochel – Schlehdorf in 1902, when he was in his mid-thirties and had only recently begun painting studies. He is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art, and this early piece offers a chance to see him near the start of that path. The work belongs to the Lenbachhaus collection, where it is kept today.
On your wall: Its early, modest character suits a study, hallway or reading corner, and it sits comfortably alongside more abstract pieces in a modern interior.

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist, born in Moscow. He came to painting relatively late, beginning his studies at thirty. He went on to work in Germany during the late Belle Époque and the interwar years, and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art.
