Gustav Klimt painted this landscape in 1913, and its title points to an Italian garden setting. It belongs to the part of his work devoted to landscapes, a quieter counterpart to the allegories and portraits for which he is widely known. Klimt was a founding member of the Vienna Secession and helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. The painting is held today at the Kunsthaus Zug in Switzerland.
On your wall: A garden landscape like this suits living rooms, studies and hallways, where a view of cultivated nature can bring a calm, modern note to the space.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
