About this artwork

Roger Broders created this poster in 1921 to promote tourism in Florence. It was made as a colour lithograph and printed in Paris by Champenois, and it was produced as advertising for the Paris to Lyon and Mediterranean railway company. The original is large, measuring about 104 by 75 centimetres. Broders is best known for his travel posters, and this one belongs to that tradition of encouraging people to journey by train to places worth seeing. It is a good example of how posters of the period combined bold design with a simple invitation to travel.

On your wall: Its travel-poster character suits a hallway, study or living room, especially where you enjoy a vintage feel or have a taste for Italian subjects.
