About this artwork

This poster by Roger Broders advertises the Route des Alpes, a touring service by motor coach that ran from the sea to the high mountains. It was made for the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée railway company around 1920 and printed in Paris by Cornille & Serre. Broders was a French illustrator best known for his travel posters, and this one belongs to that tradition of promoting journeys through France. The title and the line beneath it set out the idea plainly: a route that links the coast with the Alps. The poster is part of the Artist Posters Collection at the Library of Congress.

On your wall: It suits a hallway, study or living room where a vintage travel poster and its Alpine subject can add a sense of journey and character.
