Painted in oil on canvas in 1890, this landscape shows the countryside around Auvers-sur-Oise, with clouds above. Vincent van Gogh, the Dutch post-Impressionist, was working at a remarkable pace in these final years, and landscapes were a regular subject for him. The painting was acquired in 1929 through the art trade and now belongs to the Bavarian State Painting Collections. It is on permanent display at the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
On your wall: Its open landscape and sky suit living rooms, studies and quiet hallways where a calm view of the countryside is welcome.

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western art. In little over a decade he produced around 2,100 works, including about 860 oil paintings, most of them in his final two years. He is known for landscapes, still lifes and portraits, painted in bold colour with expressive, energetic brushwork.
