Ferdinand Hodler painted this work in 1916, in oil on canvas. The title points to the Dents du Midi, the mountain massif in the Alps, and that is the subject the picture invites you to look at. Hodler was a Swiss painter, and landscape was part of his work from the beginning. Over time he developed a personal Symbolist approach, which he called parallelism. The painting belongs to the collection of the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire.
On your wall: A mountain subject like this suits a living room, study or hallway, especially where a calm, open view of the Alps would be welcome.

Ferdinand Hodler was a Swiss painter, counted among the best-known Swiss artists of the nineteenth century. He began with realistic portraits, landscapes and scenes of everyday life. Later he moved towards a personal form of Symbolism, which he called "parallelism". His work shows a clear shift from close observation to a more distinctive, individual style.
