About this artwork

Painted in 1910, this landscape by Ferdinand Hodler looks across Lake Thun towards the Stockhorn mountains. Lake and mountain chain are the heart of the picture, a Swiss scene by one of Switzerland's best-known painters. Hodler began with realistic portraits, landscapes and genre scenes, and later developed a personal form of Symbolism that he called "parallelism". The work is oil paint on canvas and is held today in the Kunsthalle Mannheim.

On your wall: A calm lake-and-mountain view that suits living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where you would like a little Swiss landscape and a sense of open space.
