About this artwork

Ferdinand Hodler painted this landscape in 1917. The title points to a view near Caux, with clouds lifting into the sky above the land. It is an oil painting on canvas and belongs to the collection of the Kunsthaus Zürich, where it is also held. Hodler was a Swiss painter, and landscape was a subject he returned to throughout his career. Here the rising clouds give the scene a sense of movement and open air.

On your wall: Its theme of sky and open landscape suits calm living rooms, studies and bedrooms, especially where you want a sense of space and fresh air.
