About this artwork

Der Grammont is a landscape painted by the Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler in 1905. It is named after Le Grammont, the mountain it takes as its subject, and it belongs to the group of paintings in which Hodler turned to Lake Geneva. Hodler began with realistic portraits, landscapes and genre scenes, and later developed a personal Symbolist approach that he called "parallelism". Here, the pairing of mountain and lake invites a quiet, steady kind of looking.

On your wall: Its lake-and-mountain subject suits living rooms, studies and calm hallways, especially where a landscape can bring a sense of open space.
