About this artwork

Segantini painted Spring in the Alps in 1897, working in oil on canvas. The title points to an Alpine landscape in the season of renewal, a theme that suited him well. He was best known for large pastoral views of the Alps, and in his later years he combined a Divisionist approach to painting with Symbolist images of nature. Born in Austria, he worked first in Italy and then in Switzerland, where he spent the last period of his life. In the late nineteenth century he was among the most widely recognised artists in Europe.

On your wall: It suits living rooms, studies and hallways where a calm mountain landscape is welcome, particularly in homes that enjoy nature-inspired art.
