About this artwork

The Mosquito Trail is a landscape painting made by Thomas Moran in 1874. The title points to a path through open country, and the work belongs to the tradition of landscape painting in which Moran made his name. He worked in New York, where he shared a studio with his older brother, the marine artist Edward Moran. This picture offers a quiet way into his approach to the natural world.
