Paul Klee painted "City core" in 1937, and it belongs among his abstract paintings. Rather than presenting a literal view, the work invites you to read its title as a starting point and find your own way into it. Klee was Swiss-born and German, and his highly individual style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. Those influences are part of the wider world of his art, and they make his work rewarding to return to and look at slowly.
On your wall: Its abstract character suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and hallways, where it can offer a considered point of focus.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
