This poster by Leopoldo Metlicovitz dates from 1906 and takes the Swiss Alps as its subject. The title points to Brig and the Gondo gorge, in the canton of Valais, a landscape linked with the Simplon Pass. Metlicovitz was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer, and here he turns those skills to a mountain region on the Swiss side of the border. It is a poster in the early twentieth-century manner, bringing a particular corner of Switzerland to the viewer.
On your wall: Its Alpine subject and vintage poster character suit a hallway, study or living room, especially where travel and mountain themes are already part of the setting.
