This is a poster by Leopoldo Metlicovitz, dated 1907, advertising La polvere di Pirlimpinpin, a féerie in three acts and sixteen scenes by Carlo Vizzotto. The title refers to a fairy-tale spectacle, and the poster belongs to the tradition of Italian theatre advertising, where lettering and image worked together to catch the eye. Its typography is associated with Art Nouveau, so the lettering is part of the design rather than an afterthought. Metlicovitz was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer, and this sheet shows his work in that last role.
On your wall: It suits a study, hallway or living room where vintage posters and theatrical or Art Nouveau-inspired decor are already at home.

Leopoldo Metlicovitz was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer. He worked across these three fields, moving between fine art and the printed image. Posters were a central part of his practice, and his work is a good fit for anyone who appreciates graphic design with a painterly sensibility.
