This Italian advertising poster by Leopoldo Metlicovitz, dated 1900, was made for Giovanni Gilardini of Naples. It shows a woman walking in a feathered hat and a large fur stole, a picture of fashionable winter dress. The lettering names what the business offered: umbrellas, walking sticks, fans and furs. It was printed in Milan by Officine G. Ricordi & C. The poster is in the Art Nouveau style, and it shows how fashion for accessories was presented to the public at the turn of the twentieth century. Metlicovitz was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer.
On your wall: It suits a dressing room, hallway or bedroom, and sits well in any space styled with vintage fashion or period graphics.
