About this artwork

This print shows an azalea in bloom, with red and pink flowers growing from a plain brown pot. It is a colour woodblock print on paper, made in Japan in the 1920s. Several hands went into it: Ohara Koson designed the image, Maeda cut the blocks, Komatsu Wasakichi printed it and Kawaguchi published it in Tokyo. All four are named on the print itself. The image measures about 36 by 24 centimetres, a upright format well suited to a single, focused subject.

On your wall: The warm reds and pinks against a simple brown pot would suit a calm living room, a hallway, or a quiet corner of a study or bedroom.
