About this artwork

Hodler painted this view of Lake Thun in 1908, working in oil on canvas. The title points to the hour and the weather: evening, with mist gathering over the water. Hodler was a Swiss painter, and landscape was a recurring subject in his work. Here it invites a slow, attentive look at the lake and the soft atmosphere hanging above it.

On your wall: Its calm lakeside subject suits living rooms, bedrooms and studies, or any quiet corner where a landscape can add a sense of stillness.
