Alexandre Calame, 1833
Alexandre Calame's 1833 landscape looks out from Le Bouveret, with Lake Geneva, trees and the Swiss Alps in view.

Alexandre Calame painted this view in 1833, taking the title from Le Bouveret, a spot on Lake Geneva. It belongs to a group of Swiss landscapes that bring together the lake, the Alps and trees, a subject Calame returned to often. The work is in oil on a small wooden panel, measuring 35 by 47.5 centimetres. Calame signed it and dated it at the lower left, so his name and the year sit within the picture itself. Calame was a Swiss landscape painter, linked with the Düsseldorf School.
On your wall: Its lakeside and mountain subject suits a calm living room, a study or a hallway, particularly where you'd like a quiet sense of open space.
