Alexandre Calame's Alpine Landscape is a view of the Alps by a Swiss landscape painter associated with the Düsseldorf School. This version is a lithograph after his own painting, and it appeared in an 1888 book on art and artists of the period. A writer in that book described Calame's treatment of the scene as smooth and carefully ordered, and set it beside a wilder, more desolate mountain painting by another artist. Seen in that light, the work offers a composed, measured vision of the mountains rather than a rugged one.
On your wall: Its calm, ordered mountain scene suits a study, living room or hallway, particularly where traditional landscapes or a quiet, considered look are already part of the setting.
