This is The US Series, Group VIII, No. 7, painted by the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint in 1913. It is an oil painting on canvas, and it belongs to the series known as The Paintings for the Temple. Af Klint, who lived from 1862 to 1944, is regarded as one of the first major abstract painters in Western art, and her work often draws on spiritual ideas. Today the painting is kept by the Hilma af Klint Foundation, and it has also been shown alongside Swedish Modernism from the Moderna Museet collection.
On your wall: Its abstract character suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and hallways, where it can hold its own as a quiet focal point.

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings rank among the earliest major abstract works in Western art. Much of her output came before the first purely abstract pieces by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. She belonged to The Five, a circle of women drawn to Theosophy, and her diagram-like paintings give visual form to complex spiritual ideas.
