About this artwork

Hilma af Klint painted 'The Ten Largest, No. 8, Adulthood' in 1907, working in oil paint and tempera on paper. It belongs to the series The Ten Largest, and the title points to a stage of life as its theme. Af Klint was a Swedish artist whose abstract paintings are counted among the earliest major examples in Western art, with some of her work predating the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. The original is held by the Hilma af Klint Foundation.

On your wall: Its abstract character suits living rooms, studies and hallways where a considered, contemporary piece is wanted, especially in modern interiors that welcome art with a thoughtful, spiritual edge.

About Hilma af Klint

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings rank among the earliest major abstract works in Western art. Much of her output came before the first purely abstract pieces by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. She belonged to The Five, a circle of women drawn to Theosophy, and her diagram-like paintings give visual form to complex spiritual ideas.
