About this artwork

Raoul Dufy painted The Red Violin around 1948, and the work is now in the Musée national d'Art moderne in Paris. As the title says, the subject is a violin, shown in red. Dufy was a French painter linked with the Fauvists, and he became known for a vibrant, decorative style that also found its way into textile designs and the decoration of public buildings. Seen alongside that background, a painting devoted to a single instrument and a single strong colour feels very much in keeping with his work.

On your wall: With its red violin as the focus, it would bring a lively note of colour to a living room, music corner, study or hallway, especially against calmer walls.
