About this artwork

This 1817 work by Pierre-Joseph Redouté shows a white moss rose, as its title tells us. Redouté was a painter and botanist from the Austrian Netherlands, best known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers. Many of his images were published as large coloured stipple engravings. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers", and some have called him the greatest botanical illustrator of all time. Here, the subject is a single rose, presented in the clear, observant manner of botanical illustration.

On your wall: The white rose and botanical subject suit a calm bedroom, a hallway or a study, and sit comfortably with soft, natural tones and traditional or modern interiors alike.
