About this artwork

This is a botanical plate of Rosa pumila, also called Rosier d'Amour, showing a rose in a warm pink-red. It is a printed engraving rather than a painting, with captions crediting Redouté as the painter of the original design and Bossin as the engraver. The plate belongs to Les Roses, Redouté's series of rose illustrations. Redouté was a painter and botanist known for his flower watercolours, many of which were published as large coloured stipple engravings, and this plate reflects that tradition of careful, clear botanical portrayal.

On your wall: Its soft pink-red bloom and botanical precision suit a quiet study, a bedroom, a hallway or a dining room, especially alongside other floral or natural history prints.
