About this artwork

La Trappistine dates from 1897 and comes from Alphonse Mucha, the Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist. At that time he was living in Paris, where Art Nouveau was in full flower and his stylised, decorative posters had made him widely known. He is especially remembered for his theatrical posters, including those for Sarah Bernhardt, and for the advertisements, decorative panels and designs that became some of the best-known images of the era. This work sits within that body of poster art and will appeal to anyone who enjoys the graphic character of the period.

On your wall: It suits a living room, study or hallway where a retro poster adds a decorative, period touch, particularly alongside other vintage graphics or in a softly lit reading corner.
