About this artwork

This is a poster by Jules Chéret for the Concert Ambassadeurs, a café-concert in Paris. Its message is simple: performances every evening at 7.30, with free admission. It dates from 1883 and was made as a colour lithograph, printed by Imprimerie Chaix. The original is large, measuring 125 by 88 centimetres. Chéret was a French painter and lithographer, later known as a master of Belle Époque poster art. Today the poster belongs to the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and it offers a glimpse of how Parisian entertainment was advertised on the street.

On your wall: Its period lettering and theme of Parisian nightlife suit a living room, dining area, study or hallway, especially where vintage posters or a touch of retro character are welcome.
