About this artwork

Painted in 1903, Cliff Rock, Appledore is an oil painting on canvas by the American artist Childe Hassam. It belongs to the tradition of marine art, and shows a stretch of shore where rock and cliff meet the sea beneath an open sky. Hassam was an American Impressionist, and this work is counted within that movement. Coastal scenes were among the subjects he was known for. The painting is now part of the permanent collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

On your wall: Its coastal subject of sea, rock and sky suits living rooms, hallways, studies and bedrooms, especially where a calm, open view of the shore is welcome.
