Childe Hassam painted this landscape in 1885, taking Boston Common as his subject. It is an oil painting on canvas, and the title points to the hour he chose: twilight, when daylight fades and a public park takes on a different mood. Hassam is known as an American Impressionist, celebrated for his urban scenes, and this view of a city green space sits comfortably within that interest. The painting is now in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
On your wall: A calm evening park scene that suits a living room, study or hallway, particularly where you like a landscape with an urban, reflective feel.
