A red-brick college with a slender spire rises behind a still pond, framed by trees, in Pissarro's 1871 view of Dulwich College.

Painted in 1871, this oil on canvas shows Dulwich College in London. A red-brick building in the Gothic style stands behind a pond, its spire rising above the surrounding trees. A small figure waits at the water's edge, giving a sense of scale to the scene. The brushwork is loose and the light feels soft, in keeping with Camille Pissarro's Impressionist approach. The painting is signed C.P. and is now part of the Collection Bemberg.
On your wall: The warm reds of the brick and the soft greens of the trees suit a sitting room, study or hallway, especially where a calm, traditional landscape is wanted.

Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter, born on the island of Saint Thomas, who contributed to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He learned from earlier masters such as Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. At 54 he took up the Neo-Impressionist style, studying and working alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.
