Painted in 1909, Mountain (Berg in German) is an oil painting on canvas by Wassily Kandinsky. It is held today at the Lenbachhaus. The title points to a mountain as the subject, and the work shows how Kandinsky approached landscape at this moment in his career. He was a Russian painter and art theorist working in Germany, and he is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. He came to painting relatively late, beginning his studies at the age of thirty.
On your wall: A mountain subject in oil paint suits a living room, study or hallway, especially in modern interiors where you want an artwork with a sense of landscape and history.
